Validation exercises are required to assess new products or in case of major algorithmic revision. They make full use of all existing correlative data and lead to the production of a comprehensive validation report. VAL tasks: - (BIRA) verification of the geophysical coherence of the GOME-2/Metop-A/B/C HCHO total columns - (BIRA) collect, process and evaluate HCHO from ground-based BIRA-IASB measurements in Xianghe (China), Bujumbura (Burundi), Uccle (Belgium), OHP (France) and Reunion Island - (BIRA) collect, process and evaluate FTIR measurements at Reunion Island and Porto Velho (Brazil) - (BIRA) comparisons against ground-based MAXDOAS measurements in Xianghe, Bujumbura, OHP and Reunion Island - (BIRA) comparisons with FTIR measurements at Reunion Island and Porto Velho (Brazil) - (AUTH) collect, process and evaluate HCHO colum data from ground-based MAXDOAS instruments at Thessaloniki (Greece) and Guangzhu (China) - (AUTH) comparisons against ground-based MAXDOAS measurements in Thessaloniki (Greece) and Guangzhu (China) - (RMI) By means of a chemical transport model, build a reference dataset on tropospheric HCHO data. The modelling domain will be three-folded: 2 coarse resolution domains for Asia (as a function of the observational network) and the current European domain, while for Belgium, a high-resolution (7 km) model domain including the BENELUX can be provided. wp_datasources: - GOME-2/Metop-A/B/C HCHO total column data processed by DLR - HCHO column and profile data from MAXDOAS instrument operated in Xianghe, Bujumbura, Uccle, OHP and Reunion Island archived and quality-controlled at BIRA - HCHO FTIR data from selected NDACC IR stations, archived at NOAA - Total HCHO data measured at Thessaloniki (Greece) and Guangzhu (China) by ground-based MAXDOAS UV-visible spectrometers - Modelled HCHO data from the CHIMERE model wp_deliverables: - GOME-2/Metop-C HCHO Validation Report End
